ONLINE SCHOOLS

Posted by vida

In California, a beleaguered higher education system continues to force layoffs of teachers and reductions in the number of classes offered at local junior colleges.

These severe education budget cuts are eroding the hopes and dreams of trusting students who embraced community colleges for vocational training and preparation for 4-year universities.

With fewer classes and teachers, students now face frustration at the loss of education options that were once so plentiful.

And many who counted on summer courses to help them graduate on time are facing disappointment as they review the lean summer class schedules that are just now becoming available.

However, as always, there are students who resourcefully manage to snag most of their classes. Perhaps you can too, if you use the following tactics:

  • Sign up for classes as soon as you are eligible to do so.
  • Know what classes are necessary for graduation and focus on getting into those first.
  • If you miss out on getting into a class you need, attend the first class of the semester or quarter to see if the teacher will allow you to add it.
  • Once you successfully enroll in a class, be diligent in doing what is required. You may have difficulty attempting to take the class again if you drop it or if you receive a failing grade.

Students who miss out on getting the classes they want may be able to use their financial aid awards to enroll in accredited online schools like Kaplan, Capella, University of Phoenix and DeVry.

By taking some of their required classes online, students may be able to remain on track and graduate within the desired time frame.

Budget cuts across the board have left California higher education administrators high and dry, which has, of course, adversely affected the student population.

But there is still hope for motivated, attentive students who are determined to find a way to complete their college education.
